Since A latte is a coffee drink made with espresso and steamed milk. The term as used in English is a shortened form of the Italian caffè latte, which means “milk coffee”.
In northern Europe and Scandinavia the term ‘café au lait‘ has traditionally been used for the combination of espresso and milk.
Variants include replacing the coffee with another drink base such as hazelnut, mate or matcha, and other types of milk, such as soy milk or almond milk are also used.
A cafè latte is made up of 1/3 espresso and two thirds heated milk with about 1cm of foam, the foam has become a popular means to add latte art which is where the barista can pour the foam in such a way to create a picture.
